At the 4-day ADR Workshop you will learn how to use Principled Negotiation, developed at Harvard, and learn how to mediate disputes. You will develop the practical skills and techniques you need to resolve disputes effectively and with confidence. This workshop will give you the tools to manage conflict constructively in the workplace and at home.


At the end of the workshop you will know how to:

  • find solutions to difficult problems
  • deal with emotional people
  • resolve disputes while preserving relationships
  • negotiate thorny issues
  • have a process to mediate disputes

Upon completion of the workshop, you will receive a certificate from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law.



Below you will find a syllabus that describes the structure of the workshop and poses some of the questions that will be answered during the workshop. Please note that all Day 4 mediation case studies are supervised by experienced coaches who provide personal feedback.  All case studies and role plays are done in a private setting, not in front of a group.

How can you avoid making dangerous assumptions?

DAY 2

What are the 7 Elements of Principled Negotiation?
How do you deal with difficult people?
How can you be creative to get better results? 
What should you disclose in negotiation?  
When should you say yes and when should you walk away?

DAY 3

  • 2 case studies

How do you prepare for a negotiation?
How do you deal with strong emotions?
How can you be more persuasive?
How can you get people to listen to you?  
How do you handle a number of people at the table?

DAY 4

  • 1 lecture
  • 3 case studies*
How do you find people’s underlying interests?
How do you mediate to resolve disputes?  
How can you resolve workplace conflict?
How can you prevent mediations from getting out of control?

* mediation case studies are supervised by experienced mediation coaches who provide personalized feedback.

Participants will be given a copy of the book Mediating Commercial Disputes, a business book bestseller, written by Allan Stitt.

Discounts

A $150 discount applies if you register for both the ADR and Advanced ADR Workshops at the same time.

A 15% discount will apply if 5 or more people register from the same organization.

Cancellation Policy

A fee of 50% of the Workshop fee will be charged for cancellations made up to two weeks prior to the scheduled date for the workshop. The full fee will be charged for cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the workshop date or if participants fail to attend without notice.

A delegate substitution, with required prerequisites, is welcome, up to the workshop commencement date.

An administrative fee will be charged for a change in workshop dates of $250 + HST for the ADR Workshop, Advanced ADR Workshop, Become A Powerful Negotiator Workshop, Dealing With Difficult People Workshop, Mastering Difficult Conversations in Elder Care Workshop and Coaching For A Better Workplace, $500 + HST for the Applied ADR Workshop, and $150 + HST for the Winning Over Irate Customers Workshop, if the change is made in the 8 weeks before the workshop.
