You don’t need any specific educational background or experience to take our workshops. The only workshops that require prerequisites are the Advanced ADR and Applied ADR Workshops.  Participants in our workshops have a range of education and experience. Our workshops are designed for managers, HR professionals, government officials, lawyers, business people, labour/employment relations specialists, health care professionals, educators, consultants, law enforcement personnel, customer service representatives, people who want to be professional mediators, and any others who deal with conflict or negotiate in their work or personal lives.  The workshops are designed to help people build skills and develop new tools, regardless of their experience.

The Stitt Feld Handy Group workshops are accredited by several groups and organizations including various Human Resources Professional Associations in Canada and the United States, The Law Society of Ontario and International Coach Federation.  Please visit our accreditations page for other accreditations and for more details.  We will also work with you to complete any self-reporting requirements that may be necessary for your group.

At the end of the ADR Workshop, Advanced ADR Workshop, Applied ADR Workshop, Become a Powerful Negotiator Workshop, Coaching For a Better Workplace Workshop and the Dealing With Difficult People Workshop you will receive a Certificate from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law, signed by the Dean of the Law School.   At the completion of the two online courses (negotiation and difficult conversations) you will also receive the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law certificate, which you can print yourself.  At the end of the Winning Over Irate Customers Workshop you will receive a Stitt Feld Handy Group Certificate.

The attendance varies with each course.  In general, the range is from 20 to 30. We frequently divide the large group into smaller groups for some exercises, discussions and debriefs.

  • If your organization registers 5 or more participants at one time for any of our public workshops, we will provide a 15% discount for each of those registrations. In addition, your organization will also receive 15% off on any additional registrations received in the same calendar year.
  • Alternately, if your organization submits 6 registrations for any of our public workshops during a calendar year, we will provide a 50% discount on the 6th registration. In addition, your organization will then receive a 15% discount for any additional registrations received in the same year.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, our workshops are offered LIVE online via ZOOM. Our main training facility is located at 180 Duncan Mill Road, 4th floor, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  We also run workshops regularly in Ottawa, Canada; Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago; and Bridgetown, Barbados.  Periodically we offer our training in other cities throughout Canada, USA, Europe and the Caribbean.  For a full list of cities in which we currently have scheduled workshops, visit our home page (link) and choose the workshop you are interested in.  Outside of Toronto our workshops are taught at high quality hotels or conference centres.  Please contact us at if you have questions about the specific location of the workshop session you are interested in.  All training facilities are accessible buildings.

The workshops run daily from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m..  On the first day of each workshop, registration begins at 8:00 a.m.  There is homework in the evenings.

The course fee includes the binder with reference material, and any materials required to be read, lunch on each workshop day, as well as refreshments and snacks throughout each day.  The course fee does not include accommodations or related travel expenses (such as parking) while you are at the course.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution workshops teach skills and techniques in negotiation and dispute resolution.  Therefore, these skills can be helpful when seeking employment in any area in which you may be required to negotiate agreements or resolve conflicts.  Our participants have gone on to use the skills in their work as human resource professionals, lawyers, managers, salespeople, project managers, union representatives, nurses, teachers, engineers, principals, accountants, project managers and supervisors

Some people take the workshops with the goal of becoming professional mediators now or in the future. It can take time to develop a practise as a professional mediator and people’s success at finding mediation work often depends on whom they know (their connections), their prior experience, and the time invested in building a mediation practice. You take the online courses at your own pace and can log on and off as many times as you want.

The courses are made up of flash based modules and are fully interactive.  In each component, you will be presented with a scenario that includes animated characters. The characters will begin the conversation or negotiation. At a certain point, they will pause and then you get to select how you would respond from certain options. The characters will then respond based on your selection and you get to decide your next step. The conversation will then unfold based on your choices.

There is very little to read and nothing to type in. The online Negotiation course takes between 5-8 hours to complete and the Difficult Conversations Course takes between 3-5 hours to complete.
